Knock on Wood
Not only does a knock on wood test the solidity and structure of the table, it also helps to dispel any evil spirits that may still inhabit the wood from when the tree was still standing. Pick up a Penny
“See a penny/Pick it up/And all the day/You’ll have good luck”. One fact that the nursery rhyme did not mention is that the penny has to be face-up when you pick it up. If the coin is face down, leave it alone. If you pick up a coin that sits face down, you risk bringing bad luck with it.
